LaVerendrye Wildlife Reserve
Located in the province of Quebec, the reserve was established in 1939 as Reserve Route-Mont-Laurier-Senneterre.
In 1950, the government transformed the hunting and fishing reservation into a park, renamed for the explorer Pierre Gaultier de Varennes, Lord of La Vérendrye, on the 200th anniversary of his death. It was designated a wildlife reserve in 1979.
With more than 4,000 lakes and rivers, the wilderness territory offers canoe camping on more than 500 miles of interconnecting water routes.
